SAMOKHVALOV, Alexander Nikolaevich
b.1894, Bezhetsk; d.1971, Leningrad
Studied in the architectural faculty at the Higher Art School of the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg under V. Beliaev and G. Zaleman (1914-17), in the painting faculty at the Petrograd Svomas under Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Dmitry Kardovsky and Arkady Rylov (1920-23). Participant in exhibitions from 1917: World of Art (1917), Community of Artists (1922), Union of New Tendencies (from 1922), Heat-Colour (1924), Circle of Artists (1927-29), October (from 1930). In the 1920s took part in the restoration of the Cathedral of St. George in Staraya Ladoga.
