PETROV-VODKIN, Kuzma Sergeevich
b.1878, Khvalynsk, Saratov Province; d.1939, Leningrad
Studied in the painting and drawing classes of F. Burov in Samara (1894-95), at the Stieglitz School in St. Petersburg (1895-97), at the Moscow Art School under Abram Arkhipov, Nikolai Kasatkin and Valentin Serov (1897-1904), in the school of Anton Azbe in Munich (1901), and in private studios (1905-08) including that of F. Colarossi in Paris. Participant in exhibitions from 1908: Golden Fleece (1908), Union of Russian Artists (1909-10), Heat-Colour (1924), AKhRR (1928). Member of the World of Art (1910-22), Union of Artists at the House of the Arts (1920-21), Four Arts (1925-28). From 1910 taught in the Elizaveta Zvantseva school of drawing and painting in St. Petersburg, then at the Higher Art School attached to the Academy of Arts (1918-32).
