KUPRIN, Alexander Vasilyevich
b.1880, Borisoglebsk, Tambov Province; d.1960, Moscow
Studied at Voronezh School of painting and Drawing (1896), in the private studio of L. E. Dmitriyev-Kavkazsky in St. Petersburg ( 1902-04), in the Moscow studio of Konstantin Yuon (1904-05) and at the Moscow Art School (1906-10). In 1910 founding member of Knave of Diamonds. Participant in exhibitions from 1908 and member of various associations: World of Art (1917, 1921), Being (1926-27), Society of Moscow Artists (1928-29). Assistant to Konstantin Korovin at the Svomas-VKhUTEMAS (1918-19). Taught in artistic studios in Nizhni Novgorod and Sormovo (1920-22), at the VKhUTEMAS in Moscow (1922-25), at the Moscow Textile Institute (1928-32) and the Moscow Higher Arts and Industrial college (1946-52).
