| Studied at Kharkov Art School under R.M. Petrikov (1915-17), in the printing department of the VKhUTEMAS in Moscow (1921-25) under Vladimir Favorsky and Ignaty Nivinsky. Participant in exhibitions from 1924. Took part in the First Discursive Exhibition of the Society of Active Revolutionary Art, as part of theegroup of threefalong with Andrei Goncharov and Yury Pimenov (1924). Founding member and exhibitionist of the Society of Easel Painters (1925-28), October (1928-30) and the Russian Association of Proletarian Artists (1931-32). In 1918 head of the Fine Arts Department of Gubnaroobraz (Provincial People's Education) in Kursk. From 1919 to 1920 ran the artistic studio of the Kursk political administration. Worked in the Kursk section of ROSTA. Taught at the VKhUTEIN in Moscow (1928-30), the Moscow Institute of Printing (1928-34), the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts/Moscow Art Institute (1934-46, 1957-63), the Moscow Institute of Applied and Decorative Art (1945-63) and the Moscow Institute of Architecture (1953-57). From 1966 to 1968 academic secretary of the Decorative Arts Department of the USSR Academy of Arts. | ||||||
